Hey Shift Workers,

For this week's Sources podcast episode, I interviewed Faiz Shakir, Executive Director of More Perfect Union and Bernie Sanders' 2020 campaign manager.

Digital media outlet More Perfect Union was founded in 2020 to share news about America’s labour movement and tell working-class stories through video journalism. In just a few years, More Perfect Union has amassed hundreds of thousands of followers and millions of views.

Shakir's insights are valuable for anyone interested in building labour journalism, class consciousness and solidarity across Canada. Here's a clip of what Shakir had to say about building a national labour news outlet:

"When you do it that way, on a national scale like what we've been trying to do, you're taking the power of one labour struggle in one part of the country and advertising it all over, and you're saying, 'If these guys in Buffalo can do this there, if these guys in Bessemer, Alabama - little ol' Bessemer, Alabama - can do it here, then you sure as hell can be able to do it wherever you live."

Check out the full interview here.

I also spoke to Shakir about his experience working on Sanders' 2020 campaign at the Broadbent Institute's Progress Summit earlier this month. You can watch our full conversation here.
