‘Another blow’ to Ontario’s health care system: Critics slam province for scrapping paid sick leave

Ontario’s decision to end a temporary program that gave workers three paid sick days is “another blow” to the province’s fragile health care system, advocates warn.

The sick leave program, first introduced in April 2021, responded to a chorus of demand from medical experts who said paid sick days were essential to limiting the spread of COVID-19.

Ontario Federation of Labour president Patty Coates says it’s “astounding that Doug Ford’s Conservatives would abandon the most minimal protections when the overwhelming evidence shows that legislated employer-paid sick days can save lives.”
